Queer Graphica Collection

Yearning for a superhung superhero to fly you to the Planet Mary? Clashing with your chosen family over your radical views on Anti-Porn Feminism? Hoping to avoid the romantic pitfalls of Young Bottoms in Love? Then check out the Queer Graphica Collection. Thanks to the generosity of local donors Mike Niederman and Joan Brennan, Pride now boasts a remarkably diverse selection of zines, manga, comic books, graphic novels, erotic artbooks, comic strip anthologies, and critical studies of genres and artists covering a wide range of LGBTQ themes. By unsettling conformist attitudes to gender and sexuality, Queer Graphica holds up a satiric mirror to the changing role of queer folk in contemporary society. Whether you’re interested in the challenges of coming out, the ups and downs of dating, the politics of gender, the pressures of homophobia, the semiotics of leather culture, or the erotic subversiveness of kink, you’ll find hilarious sendups as well as serious treatments of these perennial issues in this collection.  Notable classics include Tom of Finland’s Kake, Donna Barr’s Desert Peach, Mary Wing's Come Out Comix and Dyke Shorts, Alison Bechdel's Dykes to Watch Out For, Patrick Fillion’s Naked Justice, Gilbert and Jaime Hernandez's Love and Rockets, and Mariko and Jillian Tamako’s critically-acclaimed graphic novel Skim.

Comprised of comics, zines, graphic novels, and artists’ bookworks, Queer Graphica reflects all the colours in the LGBT (Lesbian/Gay/Bi/Trans) rainbow in formats that creatively combine words with images. Rather than telling a single “official” story of the changing role of queer folk through history, the collection provides exciting access to socially diverse, politically engaging, culturally alternative, and often highly personal narratives of sexual/gender identity formation and queer community development across the globe.
